The role of support or healer is often not glorious, nor glamorous - but it is undeniably important position that is a necessity by design and undeniably hard to fill in all games.

Supports/healers are players who take charge of ensuring the safety of their team. They work closely with every member of the party, making sure to be in the right spot at the right time. Be it to heal up a damaged ally back into fighting condition or seeking out a favorable engagement opportunity .

The core values of a support - is that you put the team first. Spending resources for the better of others, so that they are successful in their respective roles. Buying wards in League of Legends, picking up healing cards in Paragon, and even dedicating your mana to follow and heal the Tank in any MMO's (while also spot healing for the rest of the party.) They are selfless and abide by the rule of "Others first. Always."

Perhaps this is why support is a role that is always so sought after. They fulfill a need that is scarce in many games where everyone innately seeks the glory of dealing damage, getting kills, feeding into peoples needs to feel powerful. Heck, supports aren't inherently described as powerful - they are measured in words like utility, adaptability, and compared as a whole composition, rarely as an individual. Easily blamed for when a party wipes, but never fully appreciated for the burden of the lives of their teammates - often coming up to be a one to four ratio minimum in most games where a party system exists.

Everyone wants to feel powerful, and seldom do people want to be held responsible for anyone else job but themselves. It takes a special kind of person, to seek the team succeed as a whole before personal gratification.

To all you support players out there: keep on fighting the good fight. Each game you take part of wouldn't be what it is without you.
