Known for its courage, versatility and ability to fight against all odds, the British Army’s Airborne infantry, the Parachute Regiment, is celebrating turning 80.

Formed in 1942 upon the request of Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the PARAs have seen fierce action in locations such as Normandy, Arnhem, the Falklands and Afghanistan.

It marked the milestone anniversary with a thanksgiving service at Merville Barracks in Colchester which was attended by paratroopers past and present plus their families.

A celebratory display by the Red Devils, the British Army’s Official parachute display team, was the cherry on top.
