In the first episode Maya Horowitz from Check Point Research introduces the new cyber threats in 2020. Threats that have evolved as a direct result of the rapid, almost immediate, transition of organizations to remote work. We explore the impact of COVID-19 on the threat landscape, and uncover some of the latest stories behind recent attacks that used the pandemic to spread malicious content to users.
The trend reveals include:
• Thousands of corona-related domain-names registered, many of which have been used for scamming unsuspecting victims.
• Zoom-related domain registrations and fake Zoom installation programs behind a major increase in cyberattacks.
• Threat actors seeking new infection vectors in the mobile world, changing and improving their techniques to avoid detection in places such as official app stores.
• Mobile phone infrastructure found to be vulnerable in itself, opening the gate to many different attacks
