Part 31: Cathedral Ship 1
0So... the Cathedral Ship. The cutscenes here will mostly bring backstory for Cherenkov. So: On the one hand, he's a traitor. On the other, he's possibly the most despondent, tragic figure in the entire game series. Note specifically the scene reminescent of certain scenes from Xenogears (coupled with the... episode on Dock Colony that likened the man with Id).
It's still too early in the narrative to draw any conclusions from the various factions' motivations, but it's clear that Cherenkov was snuck into the fleet to compromise the original mission, to advance the agenda of the only group that accepted him, warts and all. Not a guy I can straight up hate. Wait a bit before giving me your thoughts, though - lots more on the way.
I have to mention moral philosophy again - it's been far too long, right? Yeah, so this is also fast turning into a wall of text, but bear with me. I'll stick to definitions.
Utilitarianism: Any action is good/acceptable if there is no other way to get the desired outcome.
Duty ethics: There is a predetermined set of universally acceptable actions, decided before the situation in question, that are immutable and referenced as needed.
Few people are either of these to 100 % - which, depending on Stuff(tm), can be expected to bring what you may call 'inner conflicts'. Stick that in the back of your mind for this jaunt.
