Path of Exile - Low End Jewel Crafting Using Aberrant Fossils
Current as of 3.9 - Conquerors of the Atlas
When used to roll items, fossils function like chaos orbs but with three major differences:
- They bias the rolls that you can get, increasing the chances of getting desired rolls.
- They prohibit certain mods from rolling
- They add new mods to the pool of mods that can roll. Sometimes this is desireable, sometimes unwanted. On jewels, these are almost all unwanted.
For aberrant fossils used in single resonators on traditional jewels (not abyss jewels), these three play out this way:
- Any specific chaos related roll is ten times as likely
- Lightning mods cannot roll. This is good - usually you do not want lightning and chaos mods together.
- A highly desireable mod - 13 to 19% increased chaos damage as a suffix - is added to the drop pool.
Whilst I don't hit any extraordinary jewels here, this type of crafting seems quite profitable. Chaos damage builds aren't at the centre of the metagame, but they are popular enough to merit giving this type of crafting a go.
At the time of posting, each attempt costs approx 2.5c - one Primitive Alchemical Resonator, one Scouring Orb and one Aberrant Fossil.
