Pathfinder1e - Trials of Solaria - Broken Oaths - Session 9
Session 9
Just after the events of the Apostle attack, Mikhael goes around the vault area, investigating for clues. Smells some sour, spoiled stuff around. Can't find anything, though they hear some flies buzzing around.
We all gather up in the room to talk. Bix tells us he gave the book to G'odife, and she seems to be in the middle of a ritual in the meeting room. Mikhael and Eckhard interrupt her, while Bix and Ven have a little talk, get to know each other.
Bix talks about how the Stolen Lands weren't such a cool place before they became Solaria. And then King Frederick came along and things got better.
Ven used to live in Sunspire, before his dad died, burning down alongside their home and everything they owned. That's when he got his magic powers, while living on the streets. His mom introduced him to Godfrey when he was older, and that's why he got roped into it and eventually got brainwashed. Then he was in Sunspire during the invasion and… well, finally got some sense.
The High Priestess shows up and takes Ven's manacles off like a nice old lady who's not at all extraordinary in any way, don't worry about it.
Ven also talks about his tattoo and how something weird must be up for it. It hadn't flared up in a while, but it did when the Apostles showed up.
We talk with G'odife about how we don't trust her to do shit, then the Queen arrives. We talk a bit more, and G'odife is starting to get anxious, tripping over her words and slipping up. Mikhael is pretty sure that she is envious of her father, not so much disgusted by him.
She tries to escape, and we strike her down. She cries out about not wanting to be imprisoned anymore. Sadly, we're forced to manacle her again and throw her in a cell.
We have a talk with the Queen and manage to convince her that Ven was simply manipulated by G'odife and should remain free in order to help. She eventually agrees thanks to Mikhael pushing the right buttons and Eckhard backing them up.
Bix checks up on the newly orphaned girl and then gets super drunk with Pauly.
Ven visits Hermand to tell him not to slander Mikhael too much in the play. Instead they will slander the Queen, which is probably a… bad idea? We'll see.
Eckhard walks around and has a bit of a moment, hearing voices and stuff. Some creepy voice talks to him about strength and glory, over doing 'the right thing'. A shadow creature appears, with blazing green eyes. He offers him power, but he rejects it and turns away.
Mikhael gathers some information; they are pretty sure there's no Apostles in town, and the shadowy man going around is only pretending to be an Apostle. Also people have been hearing the shadow creature offering power that Eckhard also heard.
The next day, everyone other than Eckhard meets up at the Clumsy Bear. They talk a bit about the book and what to do with it.
Meanwhile, Eckhard is at the Mint feeling kinda shitty. And Sarah is feeling kinda guilty too. She's also feeling like she might not be up to being a cleric anymore. He's not feeling very steadfast himself, so he leaves that discussion for another time.
The Queen calls him to her office. She admits that he is likely her most truthful ally. She tells her that the Mayor is planning to send an envoy to Brevoy to request that Varnhold be annex'd into their territory. And the Queen also seems to be dealing with a lot of personal issues right now, understandably, so she doesn't trust her judgement. She asks for Eckhard's opinion, and he believes that she should stay and fight for the kingdom.
She also asks about G'odife. She understands that it's not her fault being born to the dickless one. Eckhard advises her to set her free when the book is dealt with.
Meanwhile, back in the tavern, Mikhael finally finds out about the Topaz. Ven and Mikhael talk a bit about the shadow man and the topaz and the book and everything. They theorize that the man is actually a shadow possessing someone, maybe even an Apostle. They're definitely after the topaz and the book.
We all have a good ol' fashioned meeting with lemon pastries. We mention everything important and everything we've talked about and at some point Ven realizes that whatever trace of shadowstuff was on Dawkin since he's been possessed is also… outside this very room, right now.
We all subtly make our way outside and talk to a possessed acolyte who quickly reveals themselves to be a shadow looking to parlay. It gives us the Shadows' simple terms; give them the book of shadows, and they will cease their attack on the Material Plane. Fail to do so, and the attack will escalate.
Session Highlights:
• Lots of talking y'all.
• Ven is in the clear, G'odife is locked up again, we turn our attention to how we're going to deal with this book and the shadows that seem to be coming after it.
• A shadow reveals itself possessing an acolyte, and it gives us an ultimatum.#actualplay
