This longplay was recorded with the Advent Revising patch, which doesn't fix a whole lot, but it does restore a lot of cinematics from the Xbox version, which were for whatever reason cut out from the PC one.
Advent Rising is an action-adventure third-person shooter video game developed by GlyphX Games and published by Majesco Entertainment. The game was released on May 31, 2005 for Xbox and on August 9, 2005 for Microsoft Windows. Its story was created by Donald Mustard and featured a script written by science fiction writers Orson Scott Card and Cameron Dayton; the full orchestral soundtrack was done by Tommy Tallarico and Emmanuel Fratianni.
Tremendously hyped, the game was the first in a planned trilogy which also saw the development of a game that would take place alongside Advent Rising, called Advent Shadow for the PSP. Despite a large advertising campaign including promotion in cinemas, the game's retail performance fell far short of expectations. By the end of 2005, Majesco had completely revised its business plan to focus towards handheld games and canceled plans for future Advent Rising games.

I had no recollection whatsoever of how amazingly unbalanced the difficulty was in the first half of the game (ie. before superpowers). This is partially due to some poor design decisions, and partially due to the horrible controls. I hear they ain't much better with a controller, either. Hence I died. Quite a lot. I managed to edit most of the deaths out, but I left a good bunch of them in. Some because they're downright hilarious, some because they're incredibly cheap. And some because there simply wasn't a way to edit them out seemlessly. If you notice the "reloading checkpoint" notification in the upper left corner of the screen while loading a section for the first time, it either means I died on that spot, or that I quit the game and restarted from there.
On that note, there are two edits I couldn't have made seemless, both of them in the second part. The first one occurs at 01:12:11- I quit and restarted the game and for whatever reason, Gideon was facing the opposite direction afterwards. The other one, at 02:26:25, is much more romantic (Spoilers - highlight to reveal the text) - I forgot about the trick to this battle, which resulted in nothing less than half an hour worth of recording of me running around the big guy aimlessly, with no clue how the hell do I take the beast down. I actually had to look that one up. I knew I was supposed to toss the rocks back at him, but I forgot all about the fact you had to look as high up as possible in order for the game to register the damned action. Here's hoping these two hiccups won't cause much discomfort while watching. :)
When all said and done, the game aged pretty badly, but is still tons of fun once you get over the controls. The story's pretty great too, an endless shame the rest of the planned trilogy never happened. -
