Penn State head coach James Franklin met with the media on Tuesday for the first time since his postgame press conference following the loss to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions lost 20-12 in a frustrating, stagnant performance from the Penn State offense. He discussed his team's struggles and where the offense can improve before the next game.
James Franklin previews Penn State vs. Indiana
As he always does, Franklin’s press conference starts with a preview of the team’s next opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers. Head coach Tom Allen’s team is 2-5 this season and is coming off a 31-14 loss to Rutgers last weekend. The team is 0-5 in conference play with wins over Indiana State and Akron (in 4OT) this year. In the last three games, Indiana has been out-scored 127-38 against Maryland, Michigan and Rutgers.
Offensive identity
"I thought our identity was staying on schedule, converting on third downs or going for it on fourth downs. We had a lot of respect for their short-yardage situations."
Our lack of success on third down changed the game. When you have a lack of success like we did on third down it's hard to get anything going."
"We talked about staying true to our identity and we kind of got Way from that. Someone asked me about the goal line package earlier and I think we got away from that."
