Perfect Playthrough: Xenogears Part 35
0Well, that was quite the twist. Not only was Sigurd a bastard Fatima (which speaks volumes of his character considering his loyalty to Bart in spite being the older brother), but one of the three Gates to Solaris was stationed right inside that cave near Nisan (so that's what the Hermit Cave was supposed to be). We take down Shakhan, and Bart takes his place as king of Aveh. His first order of business was to dissolve the monarchy and declare Aveh a Republic, where he and Sigurd would act as co-rulers.
Now to deal with the one buried beneath Ethos H.Q. I figured might as well since we had the time, which again, shows how much I underestimate this game and its long, long, long, long cutscenes. We split into two teams--one consisting of Bart and Billy (with Chu-Chu volunteering), and another consisting of Fei, Elly, and Citan. Fei's team would be dropped off midway up Babel Tower to manipulate the giant mirror off to its side, while Billy would fire a laser off of Ft. Jasper towards Babel Tower. The mirror on the tower would then ricochet the laser towards the spot on the ground beneath Ethos H.Q. where the second Gate is located. And of course, both teams have to fend off the Elements while getting the laser and mirror ready.
After all that was resolved, we deduced that the final Gate had to be located in one of two locations (one of which, oddly enough, doesn't appear anywhere on the world map for some reason). Based off of Elly's testimony, there wasn't any landmarks anywhere around Solaris--just endless ocean--so we then deduced that the final gate had to be located somewhere deep in the ocean. Which we'll look into next time.
