It is a remake of the console versions of Heavy Iron Studios' SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, developed by Purple Lamp Studios and published by THQ Nordic for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. The game was released on June 23, 2020, and received mixed reviews. Although the graphical update and fidelity to the original game were praised, critics felt the game did not address the technical flaws of the 2003 version and found the new multiplayer mode an unnecessary addition
