District 7 Councilman Michael Nowakowski celebrates National Service Recognition Day on April 2, 2019 with AmeriCorps VISTA member Elizabeth Planas, who is currently serving in the Phoenix City Manager’s Office. Elizabeth is working to build resilience in low-income communities, including helping to mitigate the negative impacts of rising urban temperatures through tree shade projects and educational outreach. This video was filmed and edited by Peace Corps alum Anthony Wieland, a Coverdell Fellow in the Phoenix City Manager’s Office through ASU’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society.
