In this part, Phoenix is challenged to prove that the person in the second photograph is not Maya, which he does by presenting the jacket Maya wore that day. He is further challenged to prove how a third person could possibly have entered the room, if it is NOT Maya in the photo.
Phoenix rises to these challenges by presenting the key to the room where the murder took place (which was locked from the inside). Maya had the key, but it was found outside of the room. Therefore, it is logical to assume Maya left the room at some point.
Franziska is unable to disprove this possibility, and the Judge decides that the trial shall continue for another day. Franziska promises to crush Phoenix in the next day's trial, and Maya talks briefly with Phoenix and Pearl before she is taken to jail again.
