He uses this kit to fingerprint the note that Deirdre intercepted. When Nancy analyzes the print, she gets no results because it's just a partial print.

Nancy calls her father to learn when the fire alarm was disabled. Nancy decides that her friends should double-check everyone's alibi at that time. Nancy also decides that her friends should get fingerprints from all the suspects. Deirdre says she was with her friends Jessica and Holly, but Jessica doesn't back up this alibi. Toni Scallari says she was working, but this alibi is false, because the ice cream shop was closed at the time.
