Is the search for Larry King's replacement nearly over? According to the online entertainment website "TheWrap," ''America's Got Talent'' judge Piers Morgan will take over in the 9 p.m. weeknights slot on CNN - the spot previously held by the ''Larry King Live'' show.

Reports in recent weeks have disputed that Morgan was the heir apparent to Larry King. Morgan himself told HollywoodLife.com it was "highly unlikely" that he'd take the job at CNN. That article has since been removed from HollywoodLife.

TheWrap reports that a deal could be coming very soon, with an official announcement "expected early next week at the latest."

According to the ''New York Daily News,'' Piers Morgan will be part of a CNN lineup that includes Democratic New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and conservative Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker at 8 p.m. and then Anderson Cooper 360 at 10 p.m. The ''Daily News'' describes the new programs as "the latest effort by CNN to grab some upward Nielsen movement, which has been nonexistent there for some time." What kind of financial deal will Morgan get? The ''Daily News'' says he could reportedly earn "between $6 million and $8 million a year."

The search for a replacement for Larry King has been ongoing since King announced his retirement from CNN on June 29, 2010.

Piers Morgan is a former editor of several British tabloids, including the ''Daily Mirror'' and ''News of the World.'' To American audiences, he's recognized as an ''America's Got Talent'' judge and as a past winner of NBC's ''Celebrity Apprentice.''
