Pin-Bot (NES) Playthrough
A playthrough of Nintendo's 1990 pinball game for the NES, Pin-bot.
Pin-bot is a video game reimagining of Williams' popular 1986 pinball table of the same name that was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo themselves.
All of the original table's rules and main features have been recreated as well as one could hope for on an NES. The ramps, bumpers, targets, and spinny things are in the right places; the artwork and sound have been given a stylishly lo-fi overhaul while remaining entirely recognizable, voices included; and the ball physics are solid and consistent.
Not content with creating a mere electronic replica, Rare also went the extra mile and added several new bells and whistles to this NES adaptation. It supports four players, there are multiple ball shapes, and if you can nail a solar bonus during a multiball stint, you'll move on to a new "level" with a new color scheme, ball shape, and set of hazards. One level has a monster that tries to eat the ball, for example, while another sees you trying to knock out missiles before they destroy the flippers.
Pin-bot is a great 8-bit take on pinball - almost as good as its 1991 follow-up, High Speed ( • High Speed (NES) Playthrough ) - and I got several hours of fun out of chasing after high scores.
It's also novel for being the only NES game that I know of to star a chrome lady android with Death Star jugs. That's neat, I suppose. For the right person.
