According to the hypothesis of "embodied cognition" our minds are not biological computers, which process symbols that are abstract and arbitrary related to their referents. Rather, the cognition is intimately linked to perception and action, i.e. our thinking is based sensory and motor simulations. It is not clear, however, what is the nature of that link.

Professor Piotr Winkielman from the Univeristy of California in San Diego clarifies the basic sources of the diversity of opinions concerning the nature of embodiment.
