Pixel 8 duo: Is Google finally listening to battery complaints?
While the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are commendable smartphones overall, their battery and charging capabilities leave room for improvement, especially when compared to top Android devices from Chinese manufacturers. However, if prominent leaker Kamila Wojciechowska is to be believed, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro could bring the desired enhancements.
Currently, the Pixel 7 supports 20W wired charging for its 4,355mAh battery (with a rated capacity of 4,270mAh), while the Pro variant offers a slightly higher maximum speed of 23W for its larger 5,000mAh cell (rated capacity of 4,926mAh). In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging support, and the Redmi Note 12 Explorer holds the title of the world's fastest charging phone, with an astounding 210W charging capability.
Although Google won't break any records with its upcoming Pixel releases, it is expected to make incremental improvements to battery capacities and charging speeds. Rumors suggest that the Pixel 8 will feature a larger battery with a rated capacity of 4,485mAh and support 24W charging. On the other hand, the Pro variant is likely to offer a 4,950mAh battery and 27W wired charging.
While these may appear as minor upgrades, it's important to note that the phones will be powered by the more efficient Tensor G3 chip, resulting in noticeable improvements in battery life.
In addition, Wojciechowska reveals that the upcoming Google phones will support the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard, delivering higher speeds and improved latency. The Pixel 8 Pro might even introduce an upgraded UWB model, while the non-Pro version will continue to lack this feature.
Furthermore, there are indications that the Pixel 8 duo will expand its availability to four new markets, including Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Portugal. This move would bring the total number of countries where the phones are officially sold to 21.
According to earlier reports, the Pixel 8 series is set to feature improved cameras, smaller screens, and the USB DisplayPort alternate mode.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro as we approach their official release.
