Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2: Bluetooth 5.3 Upgrade Makes It the Ultimate Tracker
In 2021, Samsung revealed the Galaxy SmartTag and SmartTag+ trackers, alongside the Galaxy S21 family. Curious about the SmartTag? Check out our comprehensive review below.
Exciting news awaits as rumors suggest that the Korean giant is planning to refresh its item tracker later this year. Leaked certification information hints at the arrival of the Galaxy SmartTag 2, which has recently surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG database. While the certification listing doesn't provide extensive details, it does reveal the name of the upcoming tracker. Notably, the SmartTag 2 will utilize Bluetooth 5.3 instead of the Bluetooth 5.1 radio found in the original SmartTag. Although Bluetooth 5.3 offers an incremental upgrade over its predecessor, it promises advantages such as reduced power consumption, improved connection quality, decreased interference, and enhanced security.
While further details about the SmartTag 2 are currently scarce, it is expected that Samsung will retain the on-device button and its capability to be programmed for controlling IoT devices via your smartphone. Additionally, we're eager to discover if there will be a separate variant of the SmartTag 2 featuring UWB support, similar to the SmartTag+. Alternatively, it remains to be seen if all SmartTag 2 models will come equipped with UWB.
Fortunately, the wait for more information won't be long, as reports indicate that the new SmartTag 2 might be unveiled at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, set to showcase the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5. Mark your calendars for the last week of July.
