Planet Nomads 0.7.5 big wheel test
1I built a fairly square wheelbase jeep-like vehicle in Planet Nomads with the new large (enormous!) wheels and suspension to see how it compares to using many normal (small) wheels. Since the wheels are so dramatically larger than the normal wheels, I expected better traction and better power, and was hoping for equivalent speed (for anyone not familiar with the game, all the wheels contain their own motors).
Unfortunately, what I found was that driving the vehicle was like driving a car (not jeep) on wet grass with half-bald street-tires! As you can see in the first half of the video, I have 4 wheels and can't make it up mild slopes without sliding sideways. Trying to turn right at the top was a serious challenge, as the rear was sliding downhill the entire time.
At 1:34 I then replaced the 4 wheels with 6 and used front and rear steering. This was only very slightly better.
In my opinion, wheels this huge on a vehicle that small should stick like glue and accelerate without hesitation.
Sorry for the lack of sound and graininess. I was using OBS to record and it created a corrupted set of video files I had to edit and re-encode. I used Flowblade as it was the least difficult to learn in a hurry (I've never done video editing before).
