PlanetSide 2 - Analyze This: Improving Your Game Through Efficient Keybinds
The "Analyze This" series of videos typically includes detailed commentary while exploring various avenues of theorycrafting to min/max gameplay. It's everything from meticulously analyzing settings, sensitivities, and keybinds, to digging deep into what a game has to offer in order to utilize advanced decision-making techniques through unorthodox methods of analysis. You can essentially look at this as the homework and research that I often do when not actively gunning down my enemies, and be sure to note that it all goes a long way toward improving your overall success as a gamer.
This particular episode focuses on all of my in-game keybinds for PlanetSide 2 and why I choose to bind certain abilities to certain keys. While I have an unorthodox setup of using a Razer Naga mouse with an ESDF movement layout, my suggestions and the thought process behind my decisions will still hold true for gamers with all mouse/keyboard layouts, though you lucked out if you happen to have an MMO mouse and/or use ESDF for movement already!
In general, while I recommend having very thorough keybinds and using an ESDF movement setup, you can get by just fine with slight modifications to the default setup. I go over intelligent placement so that your most desired keys are bound to the most accessible buttons, and so that abilities you want to have access to while moving or aiming are bound to a button that allows you to do so without sacrificing your ability to move to avoid enemy fire or continue to place accurate fire on your foes. I also stress the importance of improving your muscle memory, much as I did in the original Analyze This episode on scopes and sensitivity, by suggesting that you find a setup that works for you and stick with it across multiple keybind types and even different games. For instance, my movement/spot/map/interact/reload/grenade/melee/crouch/sprint/etc. buttons -- basically almost all of my binds -- share that same bind for the same action within another game (like Battlefield). Additionally, similar binds within a given game are the same, such as Crouch and Descend aircraft, Jump and Ascend aircraft, Sprint and Afterburner, Use Ability for infantry and Deploy flares/Smoke/etc. for vehicles, and the list goes on. As an example, if you are able to bind an ability for infantry to something that serves the same purpose for your vehicle, go for it, and your brain will thank you later!
While this is what works best for me, and I will list my most commonly used/modified binds below, it is by no means the end all, be all of keybinding in PlanetSide 2. Switching your binds to these keys will not improve your game immediately, and in many cases a drastic switch will decrease your performance until you get used to them. I want to make it clear that I am not preaching using my binds, but rather offering up the thought process behind my configurations in order to help you make selections that work best for you. Ultimately, find something that is both efficient and feels comfortable for you and stick with it -- practice and familiarity makes perfect -- there is not one clearly superior solution to this stuff.
Here are my more commonly used binds with the ESDF/Razer Naga setup:

Move Backward: D
Strafe Left: S
Strafe Right: F
Spot Target: Q
Expand Minimap: W
Interact/Enter or Exit Vehicle: A

Auto Run/Cruise Control/Ascend: Left Shift
Crouch/Descend: Naga 1

The rest of the binds are either default or modified, but very seldom used in combat; typically for social panels, scoreboards, and things of that nature.
