Among the many reasons why you might be losing firefights, this is probably the one that plays the biggest role in fucking your hit rate if you're unaware of Planetside's flawed Hipfire to ADS transition mechanics. If you fire a single bullet before being fully settled in ADS, your entire ADS spray will behave according to hipfire CoF/spread/bloom. It makes no sense & it truly is not your fault. In this video I go over how other FPSes generally handle that transition and why they've got the right answer while Planetside shits the bed (Unsurprisingly).
TL;DW/TL;DR: Spraying makes a value go up, that value is fed into two different instances - Hipfire & ADS. Both have their own calculation with that value which spits out a new value for the current bloom in each instance. Most games transition in between when you go from Hipfire to ADS & ADS to hipfire - however Planetside remains within the Hipfire Cone of Fire/Spread numbers even if you ADS after beginning in hipfire. If you start firing even a milisecond before ADS animation is complete, you're fucked and are now stuck with Hipfire accuracy & spread until you reset.
