Disclosure: This game is currently free to play on Steam. I did not purchase anything.
I played PlanetSide 2 for about a month some years back, so I have no understanding of the feedback regarding those hoping it was going to be anything other than a Battle Royale. From the earliest trailers it was apparent Daybreak Game Company was hoping to use the IP to chase after the already bloated battle royale genre, which they failed to do with their H1Z1 variation back in 2018. With a range of technical issues, visual problems, P2W lootcrate concerns given the type of upgrades weapons and units can get from crates, and the general blandness of the weapon variety, the game fails to make much of an impact with many design choices done much better by those who have been available for years. This video is many for archiving purposes and I don't recommend it, especially with the low player counts making finding a game long and finding anyone on the massive map harder.
I will say the idea of 12 person squads is an interesting aspect to the game though.
