Hopos here work on basis of anchoring, hold the last note to play the next one.
Once way back i played behind the mask by holding the green note always and hitting every HOPO without actually notes before it, don't know if its an Emulator thing but it works. I am assuming the game is thinking that because you are playing the note that is the part of the 'previous note' it means as long as you hold that one, in this case Green, it can count as a HO or PO. In turn this makes HOPOS bit more consistent [though you have to play with GH1's strict timing window]

Just assume whenever there is a HOPO and i am holding green that i am Hammering it on [there is a bit of video where i strum the hopos clearly, not holding green] Minus a few parts like on outro which i did strum to just continue off the combo, i have mostly hammered this on.

Guess maybe its partly connected to the how ghosting works? [TO ghost you have to tap an adittional note, however if you held an additional note before hand it works fine, so if HOPO is Y and G and you press R mid of it youll miss, but if you press YR at same time and then G its fine since it was part of the PO step]
There is probably an actual explanation for this, or it might be emulator sided like i said, but this does work.
Playing Killing Queen intro hammering it is fun.
