In this first video comparing the playstation 5 versus the xbox series x, we take a look at the memory, the CPU and the GPU of both consoles. Both the PS5 and XSX have similar tech - a zen 2 based cpu, GDDR6 memory of 16GB, an RDNA 2 based GPU (which is custom) and a very fast SSD, but both the xbox series x and playstation 5 have unique hardware which is a very different approach.

The playstation 5 has a narrower gpu with 36compute units which is rdna 2 based and runs at much higher - but variable clock speeds and this is coupled with 16GB of GDDR6 memory providing 448GB/s bandwidth. Sony's Zen 2 based cpu for the PS5 runs with 8 cores, 16 threads and offers up to 3.5ghz for its clock speed. The SSD is custom, with 825GB of storage space and can read data uncompressed at 5.5GB/s, though compressed it can be much faster, 9GB/s or more which would fill the consoles ram in just a few seconds.

Microsoft's console is very different, sporting 52 compute units at lower, yet stable clocks. 16 GB RAM, but with 2 memory speeds, buth 560GB/s and 336GB/s bandwidth. The XBox series x also sports 8 zen 2 CPU cores, but SMT can be either enabled or disabled with developers so the xsx cpu can run at either 3600mhz or 3800mhz.

Both consoles GPUs are capable of AMD's hardware-based ray tracing.
