Analysis:

Koffing - I needed Growlithe and Magnemite (who I'm only using for this battle) for later in the battle, and one of either Riolu/Snivy to act as cannon fodder. So I countered Koffing's attacks since Riolu can live 2 Tackles and Koffing can't live 2 Countered Tackles.

Whirlipede - I sent in Growlithe because it had Intimidate. Then I switched in Riolu to act as cannon fodder. Riolu's death allowed me to safely switch in Growlithe (by "safely" I mean "without getting attacked") to get yet another Intimidate on Whirlipede. Then Magnemite comes in, who can easily wall Whirlipede (Whirly's only move that can hit Magnemite is Pursuit, and the resistance + 2 Intimidates means 1/4 damage). Magnemite can confuse Whirlipede so that there's absolutely no way Whirlipede can KO Magnemite, then Magnemite can try and Para-hax Whirly with ThunderShocks and whittle away at its HP until Roxie has used her Super Potion and Whirlipede has low enough HP that Growlithe can 1HKO Whirly with Ember.
