IMPORTANT: If you're playing on the Virtual Console, make sure to use the item list provided in the description rather than the one used in the video, where two items are different. The item list used in the video is known to cause corruption in the TM/HM pocket and/or Key Items pocket of the bag on the Virtual Console (not in a Game Boy).

If you want information about the Coin Case glitch, have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NADKp7PI2XY (read the video description). Instead, this time, the wall of text will contain detailed information on how to set up and perform the trick.

This is what you'll need and what you'll have to do to perform this trick:

1. Pokemon:

- The Pokemon you want to strengthen. Put it in the first position of your party.
- A Quagsire holding Protein with Sleep Talk as the first move. Put it the fourth position of your party.
- An untrained, low level Pokemon. Put it the third position of your party. The Pidgeys or Rattatas in Route 29 are some of the best ones. Make sure that the Pokemon's Special stat is not 8 and that it's HP stat is not 16. Make sure the Pokemon is female as well to further increase the chances of succeding. A Pokemon that meets these three requirements will work around two thirds of the times. If it didn't work (the game froze, the level of the first party Pokemon did not change), catch another Pokemon and try again.

2. Items:

2.1. Bag:

- Coin Case
- Rare Candy x2 (you'll need two for each Pokemon you want to strengthen. But as long as you have one, you can clone a Pokemon holding it and get as many rare candies as you need)

2.2. PC (these items must be deposited in the PC in the following order):

- [Any Item] x[Any Amount]
- [Any Item] x[Any Amount]
- Super Potion x14
- Ultra Ball x26
- X Accuracy x53
- TM27 x1
- Awakening x[Any Amount]
- Escape Rope x34
- Repel x20
- Paralyz Heal x32
- HM07
- [Any Item] x[Any Amount]
- Fresh Water x73
- Full Restore x49
- TM12 x1
- Spell Tag x1
- [Any Item] x[Any Amount]
- Poke Ball x46
- HM03 x1
- X Speed x1
- Full Heal x18
- Flower Main x51
- TM06 x1
- [Any Item] x[Any Amount]
- TM41 x[Any Amount]

3. Additional Information:

3.1. How to get the items:
- X Accuracy: Goldenrod Department Store, Celadon Department Store
- TM27 (Return): "On Sundays, a woman will appear [in the fifth floor of Goldenrod Department Store] who will give the player TM27 (Return) if the lead Pokémon in the player's party has high friendship or TM21 (Frustration) if it has low friendship. She will only give one TM a week. If the Pokémon's friendship is neutral, she will not give the player any TM, but they may still show her a different Pokémon to get one."
- HM07: It's Waterfall
- Fresh Water: Goldenrod Department Store, Mt. Moon Square Shop
- Full Restore: Indigo Plateau Poké Mart (you'll need quite some money to buy these)
- TM12 (Sweet Scent): "Received from the woman behind the counter in the gate connecting Route 34 with Ilex Forest"
- Spell Tag: Given by Santos in Blackthorn City. Santos will only appear on Saturdays.
- HM03: It's Surf
- Flower Mail: "Violet, Azalea, Goldenrod, Mahogany, Viridian, Cerulean, Saffron, Fuchsia Poké Marts"
- X Speed: Goldenrod Department Store, Celadon Department Store
- TM06 (Toxic): Prize for defeating Kanto Gym Leader Janine
- TM41 (ThunderPunch): Buy it at Goldenrod Department Store

3.2. Alternatives:

- Full Restore x49, and TM12 x1 can be replaced with Full Restore x98. Moreover, they can be replaced with Full Restore x99 and you'll only need one Rare Candy instead of two, but do this ONLY if the Pokemon that is going to be strengthened evolves once or does not evolve.
- Quagsire holding Thunder Stone instead of Protein. If so, remove the two items in the first and second positions in the PC (both are [Any Item] x[Any Amount]). This means that Super Potion x14 would be the first item, Ultra Ball x26 the second, and so on.

4. Steps:

- Arrange the Pokemon in your party and the items in your PC as explained before.
- Enter Prof. Elm's Lab.
- Leave Prof. Elm's Lab and move four steps to the right
- Open the Pokedex and open Machop's page (so that you hear its cry). Bellsprout, Machoke and Omanyte should work too.
- Exit the Pokedex and open the bag.
- Switch the pockets in the bag at least once. Then use the Coin Case (if the pocket that opened is the Items Pocket, like in the video, you'll need to switch pockets at least once regardless, to reach the Key Items Pocket).
- Your first party Pokemon should now be at level 98 (or 99 if used the 99 Full restore alternative). If it's not, or the game forze, repeat everything with a different untrained Pokemon (the third party Pokemon).
- Give the Pokemon Rare Candies until it reached level 100. It will evolve in the process as long as it can. The Pokemon's stats should now display that the Pokemon does indeed have perfect DVs and maximized EVs.
