Having beaten Lt. Surge, the next stop is Rock Tunnel, followed by a quick trip through Lavender Town, so we can get to Celadon City, and the Gym!

As much as I panicked about Haunter's level in the last stream, it turns out we're perfectly fine. The level cap for traded Pokémon does indeed raise by +10 for each Gym you beat, so we've got a bit of a buffer to work with.
