Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee
Part 19: Viridian City Pokémon Gym
Seven badges down. Only one gym left but it seems the Viridian Gym is still closed.
We do return to Pallet Town and meet up with Blue, who gives us a little something that can be beneficial: A Key Stone and 4 Mega Stones (Charizardite X & Y, Blastoisinite and Venusaurite). This will allow us to give certain Pokémon the ability to mega evolve making them more powerful. Since our team has a Charizard, we can either make it be Mega Charizard X (Fire/Dragon) or Mega Charizard Y (Fire/Flying).
After leaving Oak’s laboratory, we get word that the Viridian City Gym is open. It means that we face off against the final gym leader. To our surprise, it turns out to be none other than Giovanni himself. After being defeated, he relocated himself here in the hopes of reviving Team Rocket. But we’re here to prevent that from happening.
Giovanni uses Ground-type Pokemon so having the right types such as Water will help. Nidoqueen and Nidoking are Poison-type so bringing a Psychic-type ensures their defeat. I am disappointed because in the originals, he had 5 Pokemon and he was a bit of a challenge.
Gym Leader Giovanni
Lv49 Dugtrio
Lv49 Nidoqueen
Lv49 Nidoking
Lv50 Rhydon
Defeating Giovanni will give you the final badge, the Earth Badge. This badge ensures that Pokemon of any level will obey you without question. That and with the Pokemon League is now in our reach. We also get TM41 teaching Earthquake. Giovanni then disbands Team Rocket and departs. It sets up for when Blue decides to take over as Gym Leader.
Now we head west to Route 22 and we face our Rival again. He has improved but so have we. The only road remaining now is to go through Route 23. With all 8 badges in hand, we reach our next stop: Victory Road.
We will tackle Victory Road in Part 20. Why? Because it’s home to the third legendary bird, Moltres.
