Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! Playthrough 37: The Magikarp Fisherman Returns
Our next location is Cinnabar Island, and there are two ways we can get there, the quickest way is from Pallet Town, and the longest way is from Fuchsia City, because you will have to go through Seafoam Island if you take the Fuchsia City path, so in this video, I cover the Pallet Town way, and challenge a very infamous Trainer who likes to use Magikarp.
As the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description.
It's no surprise that a Fisherman who has a full team of Magikarp is back once again, because it's never a Pokémon game without that one Trainer, that trend happened way back in Red & Blue, which again isn't surprising because this game is a remake of Pokémon Yellow.
If you talk to Trace's sister, she will check the Friendship with your Pokémon, a new thing to this game is that your Pokémon will have a 10% boost to their stats if they have maximum Friendship.
Now onto new encounters for Route 21, in the grass south of Pallet Town, you can find Tangela, which isn't that great. I don't mind Tangela as a Pokémon, it's just that it is outclassed by every Grass-type available in the game. While Tangela does have good Defense, you can't get Tangrowth in this game, so this does limit Tangela's usability, but at least it is one of very few Pokémon to learn Power Whip, even though its Attack stat isn't that great, so the best thing Tangela can do is use Mega Drain and Sleep Powder, but Venusaur does it way better.
There is a 1% encounter with Vileplume or Victreebel depending on your version, as you are very likely to have trained up an Oddish or Bellsprout from way back at Route 1, you should have them fully evolved by now. Victreebel can also learn Power Whip, which isn't until Level 54. Back in the first part when I went over Victreebel's movepool and that it gets Leaf Tornado and Leaf Storm, it turns out I was looking at its Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon learnset instead of its Let's Go learnset.
As for the water route, you can encounter a lot of Tentacool and Tentacruel, but you can find Staryu, and a 1% encounter with Starmie. When caught above Level 40, Staryu will have Recover, and if you have a Water Stone, you can evolve it into Starmie right away, as it relies mostly on TMs for its good moves, like Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Psychic and Dazzling Gleam. Starmie has great Speed and good Special Attack, and one of the best Water-types to add to your team if you are in need of a Water-type, so I would recommend Starmie.
On this route, there is a Coach Trainer who will give you the TM for Ice Punch, which is a nice move to have, can be taught to Poliwrath, Nidoking, Muk, Electabuzz and a few others, and helps against Grass, Dragon and Ground-type opponents.
