The third battle against Hau, but it's the first one in this video series because I didn't have my Metronome users available for the first two (no PokeCentre for the event Munchlax to be usable).

To make Hau less of a problem, I chose Rowlet as my starter, giving him Popplio and its evolution for the entirety of the game. Popplio tends to rely on special moves and when it does have physical ones (Aqua Jet) it doesn't excel at the whole thing. The idea is to render Hau's starter completely helpless by Chansey/Blissey (I AM evolving my Chansey of course).

What is true however is that Pikachu is a big threat early on because of its Electro Ball move. It takes the difference between user and target speed into account when determining base power, and all of my party just happens to be hopelessly slow. I think I had Togepi and Cleffa get OHKO'd by Electro Ball in the 4th (Paniola Town) rival battle? That's how bad it is.

So when the fight starters, we haven't got much time to lose. Snubbull intimidates Pikachu (which affects only Quick Attacks, but those do have a chance of being used since the AI is dumb).

I don't get very lucky here, Snubbull using Sky Attack and leaving itself vulnerable to one final Electro Ball that I can't switch it out of. Because Pikachu is pretty damn fragile, Munchlax finishes what was started. I use Z-Metronome with Munchlax for the 1st time in this run, and I get Venoshock, which results in Munchy executing a 120 BP special poison-type move. It's pretty weak, but helps me chip at Pika some more.

The AI wastes a lot of time not killing my Munchlax (which isn't all that difficult to achieve even for a supposed special tank), so Munchlax has enough time to sit there and wait for more damaging moves to appear, none of them particularly effective. Static paralyses Munchlax, so I don't even consider using it against Popplio.

Chansey faces Popplio immediately, blocking its attempts at offence firmly, and it gets even better after a Struggle Bug proc. The paralysis from Dragonbreath shouldn't be a surprise I think - Chansey has Serene Grace, so the move had a 60% chance of paralysing the target. Poorer luck is seen in generating Trick-or-Treat, as adding a secondary ghost-type to Popplio causes all normal-type moves (which are excessively common and thus have a higher occurrence) to fail.

The ending is a little unexpected, with Perish Song spelling out death for Popplio regardless of what I do in those last turns. There's nobody it can switch out to either!

It's kind of a pity we never got to see what Munchlax would do after proccing that final Tail Glow...
