Our first kahuna battle is against a fighting-type specialist, and as powerful as the opposition may be we have quite a few good counters to this type at our disposal... They'd be probably need to be packing some rock-type coverage in addition to dark-type moves run by Mankey and Crabrawler to cause more trouble to teams. But with the way things are, there are multiple 4x fighting resists with super-effective damage and/or mons who resist both fighting and dark.
All three of Hala's fighters are Adamant, with max IVs in attack and other key areas, for some reason focusing on other stats, like speed and bulk, in terms of EV investment, where they have max 252 - unless I'm misreading this pastbin here and the first stat is attack and not HP (http://pastebin.com/vkaZNTra). They do appear bulkier than you would've expected them to be though!
Mankey can crit reliably after a Focus Energy boost, but shouldn't live long enough to terrorise Butterfree with Pursuit crits - STAB SE Guts puts a good dent into it. Butterfree is generally pretty comfortable switching into things here, though its recovery options are lacking in an itemless challenge run, so it appreciates backup or a substitute in the other two matchups.
Makuhita will be switched in next and what do you know, it can't into ghosts! The AI has a bullshit detector this time, and will switch out when it can't hurt a mon in any way, and since this happens every time (from the few attempts I had anyway) I prepare a non-ghost for Crabrawler. Crabrawler can get sizable firepower with Power-up Punch and its Z-move is a nuke whenever it decides to unleash it, which better not be after a Leer (or two!) - it can OHKO in spite of a resistance this way.
I Leech Seed Crabrawler immediately with Prankster Cottonee (who would be featured prominently in later strategies if it had any more utility to offer aside from Stun Spore and Leech Seed, which isn't very rich), and Oran Berry + Leech Seed recovery makes it appear that Z-move was never really used. I keep the Cottonee in for a few turns, using Fairy Wind, and when Crabrawler gets dangerous switch in to Cutiefly with its superior typing to continue using the same exact Fairy-type move.
Makuhita is the last one remaining. While ghost-types cannot be damaged by him at all (and he has nobody to switch into now), they can barely hurt him. Even my Silk Scarf Echoed Voice Misdreavus fails to do much when its cumulative boost to attack keeps getting reset when Sand-Attack (used constantly when Makuhita can't connect any attacking moves), so what I do is seed Makuhita in the same way I did it to Crab and then have Butterfree do the attacking.
And now, we're done with the 1st island, with Fightinium Z in our pocket. When given to a Brick Break user, this gives us an attack with a base power of 140, and that's before STAB, effectiveness bonuses and stuff like Guts boosts on Machop and Makuhita. Sound scary yet? Well, it doesn't quite OHKO Type:Null in a battle I'll upload pretty soon, so it's not THAT destructive, but it's quite something nevertheless.
