541This hack causes a value to be written into one of the general registers, through a simple load instruction, during every VBlank (which, if I remember well, occurs every ~17ms). Different instructions will yield different results, depending on which register you hack and which value you load into it (what's more, even the same instruction can yield a different result each time, as it's subject to the timing of the process).
In addition, the rst 38 vector, which is currently unused and makes the game loop indefinitely when called, has been replaced with a ret intruction so that it returns to whatever triggered it (every other rst vector is also unused and inmediatelly jumps to rst 38). Not much to explain really, this is just to possbly extend the time before the game freezes.
In short, if you wanted to try this out:
Address 0038: C9
Address 0040: 06 / 16 / 26 / 0E / 1E / 2E / 3E
Address 0041: Anything (usually 01 is best)
Address 0042: C3
Address 0043: 24
Address 0044: 20
For example ld b,01 is 0040 -- 06 and 0041 -- 01
The concept is simple, but the results are amazing!
Alternatively, you can try with register to register loads like ld b,a, or with register to address loads like ld (hl),e.
