Pokemon Red - Toying with glitch Pokedex numbers (beyond 151)
Read the description to know what you are going to watch!
Glitch Pokemon are those with Index Numbers outside 001-191, and their Pokedex Numbers are random (between 000 and 255). This means that a Glitch Pokemon can be an Hybrid if its Pokedex Number is 001-151 or a pure glitch Pokemon otherwise. However, not every Pokedex Number between 152 and 255 is used by Glitch Pokemon (in fact, most aren't, as there are just 66 Glitch Pokemon and, moreover, some Pokedex numbers repeat).
The Pokedex Number gives a Pokemon some of its most relevant data, including type, stats, basic and TM-HM moves, and font and backsprite. The difference between real Pokemon and Glitch Pokemon is that Glitch Pokemon's base data is random, and, as a consequence, absurd and unpredictable.
In this video I show how Pokemon with Pokedex Entries between 152-171 (none used by any existing Glitch Pokemon) would look like. Since you can't make a Pokemon with only a Pokedex Number, Pokedex numbers between 152-171 have been assigned to those real Pokemon that have Index Numbers from 001 to 020 (Rhydon, Kangaskhan...) in order to make this video possible. For each case, their names have been renamed to match the glitched pokedex number itself. Note that the names would be those of the "base" Pokemon (Rhydon, Kangaskhan...) anyway, since names aren't defined by Pokedex Entry. Same goes for the Pokedex descriptions, which belong to the real Pokemon. This doesn't mean that what I'm showing isn't fully accurate, it's just that a Pokedex Number alone does not define stuff like the Pokedex description or cry.
Of course, if any of those Pokedex Numbers had actually existed on one or more Glitch Pokemon, said Glitch Pokemon(s) would have an Index Number, which would lead to 105*66 possible combinations (the most relevant things defined by Index Number are perhaps level up learnset and evolution data).
I edited the RAM memory myself so that the Pokemon I want shows in the grass and I also edited the item data to have multiple instances of Master Ball in order to catch the Pokemon instantly. The reason the first item or its quantity often varies is that the 'seen' flags of the Pokedex Numbers used in this video cause one bit of the item data to be set.
Lastly, since Pokemon with Index Numbers between 0x01 and 0x14 have been used as a "base", sprites are being taken from bank 0x09. For example, Index Numbers between 0x81 and 0x98 would take their sprites from bank 0x0C. That means that different Index Numbers could've lead to different sprites although the size and shape of the sprites wouldn't change.
