Pokemon Sapphire Bootleg Playthrough: Map 1
A simple set somewhat odd tile based RPG
Basically, each Pokemon is divided into a few categories. Most Pokemon early on will be either fast, balanced, or strong. This creates a trinity of sorts with fast balanced strong fast, which seems like a good idea. But in practice, it is not so balanced since faster Pokemon can move twice as many spaces as slower ones, which really skews the balance toward faster ones. Most of my Pokemon will be of fast or balanced varieties to take advantage of that shortcoming and to clear maps at a faster rate.
The experience formula in this game is really out of whack, so I go the highest level location possible (which is eventually required anyway, I believe.) Level 10 enemy Pokemon are not terribly tough, yet provide a goldmine of experience for our level 1 scrubs.
As you can see from the game's fantastic dialogue, Dratini or "Baby Dagon" joins us after the map is completed. He starts at level 11, with flying movement like Pidgey and a skill that can be used from a distance. (As opposed to pound, which is only a melee attack) You could definitely call him a monster! :P
