25Did you watch any of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships? I watched a lot of it, including most of the finals held on Sunday. I got a better idea of what the top-level meta is up to currently, though I was hoping for even a smidgen of information about Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Of course, the information I gathered watching the Scarlet and Violet side of the competition will be moot in a short time, because Regulation H is around the corner, which bans Legendary Pokémon, Mythical Pokémon, and even Paradox Pokémon, so the metagame will change dramatically. I’ll get popularity counts for that in a couple of months.
In any case, here it is, the 9th team! This one is a single battle team. I made a last-minute revision because I realized that, except for the Lokix Team, all of my single battle teams have at least one Legendary Pokémon or Paradox Pokémon, though no Restricted Pokémon: the spot occupied by Frost Rotom, as you see here on this team, was previously occupied by Sandy Shocks. Perhaps I’ll have Sandy Shocks on some other team later on. Here are the explanations for the nicknames:
HITMONCHAN - Manny - Named after Manny Pacquiao, the boxer
DELPHOX - Wanda - From “magic wand”
KINGDRA - Ishmael - Named after the sea captain from Moby Dick
KLEAVOR - Dax - From “ax”
ROTOM (FROST) - István - Named after István Röck, inventor of the modern electric refrigerator
TREVENANT - Branch - From “tree branch”
Fairly straightforward names this time aorund, no? Well, perhaps except for one, but they could all be explained within one line of the word processor Im using, which isn’t the case for any of my previous teams. This being an odd-numbered team, this is a single battle team.
By the way, I know there are some controversial, not-well-liked people with a given name of “István.” Should I change Rotom’s nickname to something else? Please let me know in the comments.

Look at that lineup! Mewtwo? Zacian? Arceus? All there! But I learned not to be intimidated by lineups like these, because they can still be overcome. Even when the game itself seems determined that I shouldn’t come out ahead. (Thank goodness that Arceus can’t use the Legend Plate in this game!)
Because of that, you won’t see the true strategies I’ve had with any of these Pokémon. The lost turns from full Paralysis, inflicted by Zekrom’s Thunder Wave at the beginning, means I was under heavy pressure to wrap this up quickly. I had no time to allow my strategies with these Pokémon to play out fully. But maybe if all goes well, you’ll see them in some other video.
