The next Pokémon for Surprise Trade is Mareep, an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 2 and one of the most popular Pokémon when it comes to players going through Gold & Silver. I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Modest for the Nature, as the Mareep line are Special Attackers, I didn't go for the Hidden Ability of Plus, while it is good for Tera Raids when paired with Pokémon that have Plus or Minus for the Ability, Static is more preferable when going through the game.
The Egg Moves I went with are Electroweb, Flatter, After You, and Agility, I chose those moves, as the other two moves it learns, Eerie Impulse and Electric Terrain, are moves Mareep learns through TM, but then again Agility is also a TM move it can learn. It learns Flatter from a variety of Pokémon, like Croagunk, Oricorio, Impidimp, and Gothita, it can learn After You from Indeedee, Oranguru, and Lilligant, and Electroweb is a strange case, the only Pokémon that can learn the move is Regieleki, which at the time of this video being uploaded, is not available in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the only way to get Electroweb is through 2 Star Magnemite Tera Raids, which was how I was able to get Electroweb on the Mareep while breeding them.
Mareep is a Pokémon that evolves fairly early, evolving into Flaaffy at Level 15, and at Level 30 is when it will fully evolve into Ampharos. For level up moves, Mareep learns Tackle, Growl, Thunder Wave, Thunder Shock, Cotton Spore, Charge, Take Down, Electro Ball, Confuse Ray, Power Gem, Discharge, Cotton Guard, Dazzling Gleam, Light Screen, and Thunder. Mareep can be evolved into Flaaffy right away, and you don't need to hold off on learning moves earlier, but for what Ampharos can get for level up moves, it learns Thunder Punch upon evolution, and it can relearn Fire Punch, Dragon Pulse, Magnetic Flux, and Zap Cannon.
Next are TMs, and I will be going over what Ampharos can learn in case there are some its pre-evolved forms cannot learn. It can get Low Kick, Trailblaze, Charge Beam, Bulldoze, Volt Switch, Dig, Brick Break, Ice Punch, Reflect, Stomping Tantrum, Thunderbolt, Outrage, Focus Blast, Giga Impact, Hyper Beam, and Tera Blast.
While Ampharos was one of the most popular Pokémon in Gold & Silver when going through the main game, it's not that great in the competitive scene, it's decent in online battles, but there are better options. What holds Ampharos back is its low Speed stat, and while it does have a decent HP and defensive stats, it's very hard to find a place for Ampharos over any other Electric-type Pokémon, and the removal of Mega Evolution has hindered Ampharos's viability, because Mega Ampharos became part Dragon-type, but it was slower when Mega Evolved.
Ampharos does at least get access to Thunderbolt, Dazzling Gleam, and Power Gem for some notable Special moves, Ice Tera Type helps deal with Ground and Dragon-type opponents with Tera Blast, it can even go with a Cotton Guard and Rest set with a Chesto Berry, and it can go with Agility if it needs the Speed to outspeed certain opponents. It can use a Flying Tera Type for a defensive Tera Type to avoid Ground-type moves, or a Fairy Tera Type to power up Dazzling Gleam.
Ampharos does place in the top 150 Pokémon in Double Battles, it is ranked 129, its most notable teammate is Pelipper, which can set up the rain while Ampharos deals some damage with Thunder, it can use Dazzling Gleam to hit both targets, and if it needs a single target move to deal super effective damage to Dragon-type Pokémon, it has Dragon Pulse for that, and it can use Electroweb to slow down its opponents. It does have to compete with other Electric-type Pokémon which outclass it, like Sandy Shocks, Kilowattrel, Pawmot, and the Rotom forms, for some reason it sees more use than even Pachirisu, and I can't recall Ampharos having any success in VGC Tournaments compared to Pachirisu's infamous success back in 2014.
In Tera Raid battles, with Pokémon like Miraidon, Iron Hands, and many other Electric-type Pokémon, I would consider Ampharos as more of a budget option, as it's more easily accessible, both Miraidon and Iron Hands are exclusive to Violet, and while Scarlet players have access to Sandy Shocks, there are many different Electric-type Pokémon to use. If you are wondering about Ampharos's performance in the Decidueye Tera Raid Event that is currently happening at the time of this video being uploaded, it's at least a solid option, but you are better off using Bellibolt, as it has access to moves like Acid Spray and Chilling Water. Ampharos does get Plus for its Hidden Ability, but it works better if teamed up with Pokémon that have Plus or Minus for their Ability, and the few Pokémon that get either of them are Dedenne and Toxtricity. It's a solid Electric-type when going through the game, and while it does get Thunder Shock early on, having Electroweb can help in reducing its opponent's Speed whenever it needs to.
