Time to begin the Elite Four, and they are the toughest Trainers in Johto, they use many different types of Pokémon. The team I went with is Umbreon, Wobbuffet, Kadabra, Quagsire, Fearow, and Electabuzz, might not be the best team, but that is what GameFAQs suggested in their Rental guide. Speedrunners use Pokémon with Explosion like Koffing, Pineco, and Voltorb, and Haunter for Destiny Bond, as the Trainers there do provide a challenge.
I will list each Trainers that you fight in the Elite Four, as well as the Pokémon they use and their held item.

First up in the Elite Four is Will, a Psychic-type specialist, he uses Xatu, which has a King's Rock to give its moves a 30% flinch chance, and Xatu does have good Speed to put that to use, the Elite Four use Berries on their other Pokémon while their main Pokémon uses a different item, so Xatu has the King's Rock. After that is Koga, formerly a Gym Leader, now an Elite Four member, and his battle style is about using Double Team and Toxic, most of his team have different status moves, like Spider Web, Sandstorm, and Detect, and he will always use Venomoth, which has a Focus Band to give it a 10% chance of withstanding an attack. The next one is Bruno, a Fighting-type user, although he does have some Rock-type Pokémon and some hard hitting attackers, like Machamp and Heracross, his Machamp has the Scope Lens to increase its critical hit chance, and paired with Cross Chop, Machamp can score crticial hits very often. The fourth member is Karen, a Dark-type user, but she does have some Poison-type Pokémon and the Fire-type Magmar, which is the only one not to hold an item and can use Thief. Karen's strategy is to inflict status conditions, like confusion, infatuation, paralysis, and many others, her Umbreon has the Quick Claw to give it a 20% chance of attacking first on that turn.
After all four are done, last up is Lance, the Champion of the Pokémon League, and his team has some of the strongest attackers, like Dragonite and Tyranitar, and he uses Pokémon of many different types, and every Pokémon on his team has Hyper Beam, and most of which have a high Attack stat. If you are using Wobbuffet, its Counter can beat Aerodactyl and Steelix as they only know physical moves, while you have to play the prediction game against Dragonite and hope it uses Hyper Beam so that you can take it out in one attack with Counter.
After beating the Elite Four, if you use any of the Game Boy games, you can use the Move Reminder to teach them an attack that a Pokémon learns at an earlier level, and you must not have Rental Pokémon to use that, as there was no Move Reminder in the Generation 1 and 2 games.
