After almost a month without a Wild Area Event, we get one for this weekend, and for this event, Shellder will be in Max Raid Battles more often from May 20th till May 22nd, and there is a very rare chance of finding a Shiny Shellder in the Max Raid Battles.
Going over Shellder, its Hidden Ability is Overcoat, which isn't that good, Skill Link is the preferred Ability as it can learn moves like Icicle Spear and Rock Blast, so if you end up getting a Shiny Shellder with Overcoat, not the best luck to have, if only they added an item where you can change the Hidden Ability to a normal Ability, because Shellder is one of those Pokémon that should not be using its Hidden Ability in online battles, I would say it's evolved form Cloyster, because you are not that likely to ever bring a Shellder to online battles, I know there are players that are able to put unevolved Pokémon to good use, but it's not easy to do when most of the top Pokémon in online battles are fully evolved, or even Legendary Pokémon.
The one advantage to Shellder and its evolved form Cloyster is that it is one of the best users of Shell Smash, but it can be situational, because Cloyster has very low Special Defense, and most sets use a Focus Sash to ensure it can take at least one hit and then after one use of Shell Smash, it can sweep with moves like Hydro Pump, Icicle Spear, and Rock Blast. While its type combo of Water/Ice is good in terms of attacking, its high Defense stat doesn't get used all that much when Cloyster's main role is to set up Shell Smash.
The good thing about fighting Shellder in the Max Raid Battles is that any of your Electric or Grass-type Pokémon, Special Attackers are recommended as Shellder has very low Special Defense. I do like seeing Max Raid Battles being about one Pokémon, because that was the case with the last few, and Shellder is a Pokémon that I do quite like, and I did use a Cloyster in online battles in this game, which I had waited to do since Gen 5 when Cloyster gained access to Shell Smash, I am not sure how many Pokémon that I have not yet used in online battles and have been waiting since then, specially once Gen 9 comes around, because Gen 4 was when I started doing online battles, but I didn't learn about what competitive battling really was until Gen 5 or 6, which was where I understood IVs better.
