Take control of Popeye and guide him through multiple screens in order to collect hearts and return them to Olive Oyle to prove his love.

Macmillan had a distinctive art style with the huge character sprites, which look just like the cartoon characters.

The love hearts are kept behind various locked doors, each of which requires a key to open. Each key opens a specific door, so it's up to you to find out which door the key opens. This provides a decent challenge; not too tough but not ridiculously easy either.

There's no fighting in the game (a disappointment since Popeye always gets to fight someone!) and spinach purely servers as extra lives. If an enemy touches you, you get knocked down and will use a can of spinach; if you have no spinach then it's game over.

Popeye has limited inventory space, which can be frustrating since you can't drop items. I picked up too many cans of spinach and deliberately lost a life just so I could use one up.

This was a pretty decent game, especially for a budget title and is one of the most memorable games on the C64, purely because of how it looked; happy memories!

Enjoy!
