Another absolutely timeless classic for the C64 home computer (a new version has been released on iOS!!) based on the characters from MAD Magazine.
Take control of the white or black Spy in a mission to recover the passport, money, key, secret plans and brief case and then make a swift get-away, all the while preventing your opponent from doing the same.
At your disposal is an arsenal of booby traps that you can set for your unsuspecting opponent, although it's perfectly possible to disarm traps using equipment in each of the rooms. However, you can also get up close and personal and give each other a thorough beating with sticks; less sophisticated but effective.
Each time a spy is beaten in melee combat or caught in a trap, several seconds are deducted from their personal life timer. If the timer reaches zero, the spy is dead and must sit out the rest of the game.
Once a spy has all the necessary items, he needs to find the exit to the airfield where he can make his escape.
The game was fun in single player, but multiplayer is where this game really shines. Trying to outwit your opponent whilst not getting caught yourself is a real challenge. I remember playing this with my dad back when I was young and he had some real anger management issues with me watching what his spy was doing in his half of the screen and catching him out with traps; I recall that the joystick was hurled across the room on one occasion.
For 1984 this game was years ahead of it's time. The graphics are great and Nick Scarim's simple but eternally memorable music is brilliant.
In this video, I set the difficulty to maximum and select the maximum number of rooms available.
Enjoy!
