Delhi High Court raises questions on Centre’s implementation of DPDP Act
The Central Government has been questioned by the Delhi High Court regarding the execution of the 2023 Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. The law establishes guidelines for handling digital personal data in a way that safeguards both people's right to privacy and the requirement to process their data for legitimate reasons. Nevertheless, the Act has not yet been notified despite obtaining presidential assent on August 11, 2023.
Govt seeks responses from e-commerce players for not reducing prices after GST cuts
Even after the GST cuts went into effect, the government has asked some major e-commerce companies to respond to their price increases for a select few items. On September 22, the new goods and services tax regime went into effect with the goal of lowering prices and the tax burden. The government is reportedly reviewing the prices of over 50 products. In recent days, the government has also expressed its disapproval in interviews with a few significant e-commerce businesses.
Adar Poonawalla in talks to buy Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL franchise
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise is probably going to be purchased by billionaire Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India. Several bidders have expressed interest in the ongoing negotiations. The IPL team from Bengaluru is requesting a one-time payment for the franchise. Poonawalla's plans for diversification are in line with his interest in RCB. United Spirits Limited, a company of the Diageo Group, currently owns RCB. In June, they were looking into other possible ownership options.
Facebook announces new tools for creator and fan engagement
In an effort to strengthen the bonds between content producers and their followers, Facebook has added new features. "Fan challenges" and customized "top fan badges," which are intended to boost user engagement and honor devoted supporters, are among the updates. Fan challenges, a feature that enables creators to prompt their followers to produce and distribute related content, have been introduced by the platform. By selecting a particular challenge hashtag from a creator's post or another fan's entry, users can take part.
YouTube launches Premium Lite plan in India starting ₹89/month
In order to give users a more affordable option to its full Premium subscription, YouTube launched its Premium Lite plan in India. The new plan, which costs ₹89 a month, excludes some of the features found in the regular Premium tier but concentrates on providing ad-free viewing for the majority of videos. Most YouTube videos no longer have advertisements thanks to the Premium Lite plan, which makes it simpler for users to watch content on smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs without interruption.
