βœ”οΈ Class: 10th
βœ”οΈ Subject: Physics
βœ”οΈ Chapter: Light: Reflection And Refraction (Chapter 10)
βœ”οΈ Topic Name: Power of A Lens - Light: Reflection And Refraction | Class 10 Physics Chapter 10 (2022-23)
βœ”οΈ Topics Covered In This Video (by Vibhuti Ma'am): In this YouTube video, Vibhuti Mam will explore the power of a lens and how light behaves when it reflects and refracts off them. She will delve into Chapter 10 of a Class 10 Science textbook from the 2022-23 academic year. She will examine the properties of light, what happens when it passes through different lenses, and how the angle of incidence affects this process. The video will discuss how to use various equations and diagrams to understand the behavior of both reflection and refraction of light. This lesson is applicable to students studying in Grade 10. For a better understanding of the topic, the related diagrams and equations will be explained in an illustrated manner.

Points covered in this video:-

Power of a Lens -
- Power of lens is defined as the ability of the lens to converge the rays of light falling on it.
- As a convex lens converge the rays of light is falling on it, power of a convex lens is said to be positive.
- On the other hand, a concave lens diverges the rays falling on it.
- Therefore, power of a concave lens is said to be negative.
- Power of lens is given by reciprocal of focal length of the lens i.e.,
- Clearly, smaller the focal length of the lens, greater is its power and vice-versa.
- For a convex lens, f is positive. Therefore, P is positive i.e., power of a convex lens is positive.
- For a concave lens,f is negative. Therefore, P is negative i.e., power of a concave lens is negative.
- It means a concave lens would diverge the rays of light falling on it, instead of converging them.
- S.I unit of power of lens is dioptre represented by D.
- When f = 1 m, P = 1/f = 1/1 = 1 dioptre.
- One dioptre is the power of lens of focal length one metre.
- The power of an instrument can be measured directly using an instrument called dioptremeter.
- Power of lens in dioptres is called the number of the lens.
- Usually, focal length of a lens is given in cm.
- Therefore, power of lens in dioptre will be
