I entitled this "Practical Sustainability" because that's what my focus is on: doing things that not only make you a better and more responsible citizen of Planet Earth but also benefit you in a variety of ways. Almost everything I suggest is both less damaging to the biosphere than their alternatives, but also benefit you either financially or benefits your overall health or both.

For myself, I am admittedly a RADICAL environmentalist. That means, that even if certain things disadvantage human beings, I would be all for them if they are necessary to promote the health of Mother Earth. However, none of the things I am suggesting are radical in that way, they are all advantageous in some way to your pocketbook or health or in some other way. In fact almost every change I could conceive of would benefit people in some way other than environmental. Funny thing is, in this culture we have been sold a big expensive bill of goods and have been talked into doing things that are bad for our health and bad for our finances, as well as being just plum crazy in terms of a future for our planet. In almost every instance I can imagine, doing the environmentally right thing is also doing the cheaper, healthier, better thing for you personally.

Our culture has sold you a way of living that depletes your finances, destroys your health, and wrecks the planet to boot. I am not trying to talk you into sacrificing anything, because most selfish human beings don't want any part of that. I am trying to talk you into STOPPING the sacrifices you are already making to the false gods of convenience and consumerism. I am trying to talk you into spending LESS money and getting more out of it.

Sustainability as some sort of spartan sacrifice is a lie, a very convenient lie for those whose money is made on you having a consumer lifestyle. Can following the recommendations in this video reduce your water bill? Absolutely. My water bill runs about $50 a month, which is half what it used to be. Can following the recommendations in this video reduce your expenses for transportation and fuel? Massively. Can you add fresh organic produce to your life for essentially no cost and only a little labor? Yes you can.

I know that the number of human beings who like me put the Earth before human interests is terribly small. Fortunately, you can live more sustainably AND still serve your own personal interests very well, better than you can as a slave to mindless consumerism.
