Despite widespread denial, we are looking at a 4 degrees C rise in global temperature in the next 40 years. It may in fact be worse than 4 degrees C, and sooner than 40 years because of secondary effects causing release of methane from the seafloor.

To clarify what 4 degrees C means in real-world terms, 4 degrees means the ice cap on the North Pole is gone. It means the glaciers in Greenland and Northern Europe are gone. It means substantial reduction of ice in Antarctica. It means New York and all the coastal cities of the world are under water, Bangladesh is gone, and so on. It means the end of civilization as we know it.

So, if you are a young person, in high school or looking towards college and college debt and that whole bit, you are looking at a future in the relatively near term of economic, social and ecological disaster. You are preparing for a job in an economy that is going to crater. In that context, taking on a college loan and wasting 4 years of your life when you should be preparing yourself to survive is a bit senseless.

Dropping out of the educational system does not mean dropping out of education. You need to learn harder. You need to take advantage of your time to learn more, and to learn those things that the system isn't going to teach you. Because the educational system like the media and the government are in denial about the reality that science is showing us to be the case. Learn how to survive, learn first aid, strengthen your body, learn about plants and animals, learn how to hunt. Learn to grow food and what to grow, what plants are tough enough to withstand a chaotic climate. Most of our food production depends on plants that are not particularly hardy: without our help, they are not natural survivors. Some, like corn, can't even breed without our help. Learn the plants that will survive and help you survive. Spend those 4+ years instead working hard in a trade (plumbers make a butt-ton of money) so you can buy land for you to live on when shit goes south. Learn about handling guns, learn about archery, go bow-hunting, get yourself in shape. All those fat people you see in Wal-Marts (and I am overweight myself so I am not pointing fingers)? They are not adapted for adverse conditions. They are gonna either have to adapt quickly or die once they are rejected from the bosom of a collapsing industrial society.

I expect I will get some negative feedback for saying all this. However, look at what climate scientists are saying is going to happen. Figure out what that means on the ground, for people, for civilization. It's not good. It's not just me saying that, it's climate scientists saying that. You can continue to live in denial, or plan for survival, your choice.
