Pre-generate Minecraft chunks while AFK - now create maps of any size!
Updated for Minecraft 1.9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WSMgOVsnCU
(See http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/2e702s/fix_for_brianmcns_afk_chunk_generating_command/
for a possible update for 1.8)
This is an update to a previous invention of mine, where I show off a single command block which will teleport the player around a new world, in order to force the Minecraft terrain generator to run, and thus pre-generate the chunks of the map. This helps avoid lag and framerate performance problems that occur when exploring new terrain.
The main improvement over my previous design is the 'spiral' teleportation pattern, which enables you to pre-generate a map of any size. The longer you let it run, the larger the section of the world whose chunks are pre-generated.
(I also show off a simple technique to pre-generate some nether chunks by flying above the bedrock ceiling in the new 'spectator mode'.)
You can pre-generate your own world by following these steps in a Minecraft 1.8 snapshot:
- Create a new world in creative mode
- /tp @p 0 255 0
- /give @p command_block
- Right click the command block to paste the command from here: http://pastebin.com/f5q39PCg
- Activate the command block with some redstone
- Once the text instructions appear, click on the text to start (and later stop) teleporting (press 't' to bring up the chat text)
This demonstration was done using Minecraft snapshot 14w08a, and requires a recent 1.8 Minecraft snapshot to work.
The giant command for the command block is found here: http://pastebin.com/f5q39PCg
