Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a ceremony to place two frigates produced in series by Project 22350 at Sevmash Shipyard in northern Russia on Tuesday.
The Freight Fighter 22350 developed by the Severnoye Design Bureau was designed to carry out combat operations in distant waters. The first frigate was named Admiral Amelko and the second was Admiral Chichagov.
Putin installed the keel laying plate from the first frigate. The plate installation ceremony laying the trigger of the second frigate was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
Admiral Nikolai Amelko made a considerable contribution during his military service for the development of the Navy and took an active part in the Leningrad defense during the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany in 1941-1945.
Admiral Vasily Chichagov (1726-1809) was a commander of the Russian navy and a polar researcher. During the war with Sweden, he won extraordinary victories as a naval commander in the Battle of Oland, Battle of Reval and Battle of Vyborg.
