The fastest way around a hairpin isn't as obvious as you'd think: where you apex is all about what comes next.

Getting the hairpin right in #ProjectCARS3 will also have a big impact on your laptime.

[0:07] Hairpins are critical to laptime. Get them wrong, and you'll pay a big price.
[0:14] There are two main considerations when deciding on the line through a hairpin: the apex, and the location and nature of the next turn.

Finding the ideal apex:
[0:27] Finding the ideal apex for a 180-degree hairpin is about experience and practice.
[0:32] But there's also a rough guide: if you're halfway round, and you're already down on the inside, you've taken a far too early apex.

So where's the ideal apex?
[0:47] Generally, the ideal apex is around three-quarters of the way around.
[0:52] When you're halfway round, you should still be carrying speed and be positioned somewhere in the middle of the track.

[1:06] So a late apex is the right way but how late an apex do you want to take? Depends on what is coming up next.
[1:14] If there's a straight or a turn that lines up on the same side as your exit, you want to take the ideal line.
[1:22] If you need to dart across the track to set up for a turn that goes the opposite way from the hairpin, take an even later apex, which will then help you power out across the track.
