9K38 Igla (NATO reporting name SA-18 Grouse) is a Russian-made man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) that is designed to engage aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is a shoulder-launched missile that uses infrared homing to guide itself to its target.
The missile is equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead that is triggered by a proximity fuze. The missile's seeker head is capable of detecting and tracking heat sources, such as the engines of aircraft and helicopters. The seeker is also equipped with an advanced jamming-resistance feature, which allows it to maintain its lock on the target even in the presence of electronic countermeasures (ECM).
The 9K38 Igla is a two-stage missile that is powered by a solid-fuel rocket motor. It has a maximum range of around 5.5 km and a maximum altitude of 3.5 km. It can be used in both direct and semi-active mode, with the latter allowing the operator to track the target with the launcher's sights and guide the missile to the target using a laser designator.
The 9K38 Igla is a widely used system in many countries.
It's important to note that the use of this system could be highly dangerous if in wrong hands as it poses a significant threat to low-flying aircraft and helicopters.
