Project Wingman VR #1 - Eminent Domain mission, FAIL - Oculus Quest 2
Yep, I got a Quest 2. And I like it, even if the blacks on the LED screen are more gray than black now. In many cases, the increased clarity is very apparent (when I have the computing power to provide it).
Playing in VR, the rain effects are hard to see through, but the cloud effects are really nice. The video is recorded from the PC spectator screen, not the headset. From Steam, I have to run the game in Oculus VR mode - SteamVR mode for this game does not work well right now with this headset - so I can't mirror the audio to 4 channels out of my PC speakers for the recording, yet.
Sadly, playing this game on the Quest 2 with an RTX 2060 SUPER really doesn't give me a satisfying VR experience, so I'm targeting an RTX 3080 (which runs at double the speed) whenever they become available. The lack of clarity and details aren't very apparent in this video, but it definitely shows up in VR.
The jet I'm flying for this mission turns really slow, making dogfights very boring. But it has three hardpoints for multi-locking ground targets, so I make quick work of the surface ships with the railguns... until I crash into one at the end because I can't see through the rain. I was probably 80% done with the mission. Next time I'll try to pick a jet with a decent turn speed.
Anyway, Project Wingman is an impressive game for $25 and a three man team. Definitely worth a play. I will say though that despite the explosions, I don't really feel like the game has that certain punch to it. But it's worth a play for the price. There are 21 missions (pretty long missions) in the single player campaign, AND there is a single player Conquest mode that lets you gradually progress across a map taking territory. Not a bad amount of content for an indie game.
Played on i7 8700, 16GB RAM at 2666Mhz, RTX 2060 SUPER, Oculus Quest 2, Oculus Link cable (2 Gbps connection), 90 Hz mode (although there are lots of frame drops).
