A complete playthrough of Proteus on PS3. This first person exploration title was released in Oct 2013 and was console exclusive to PS3 and Vita though also came out on PC, Mac and Linux. It was offered with PS Plus in August 2014. It's one of those titles that can't really be described as a "game", it's more of an interactive ambient experience. All you do is walk around a retro inspired procedurally generated island looking at the scenery and wildlife. Occasionally your actions will trigger sounds and musical tones. You always start off in Spring and can trigger an event in the centre of the island which will change the season, when it gets to Winter it will eventually end. Most people will probably finish it in around an hour but there's no time limit until you get to Winter so you can explore the other seasons for as long as you want. Every time you start a new game the layout of the island will change but the assets and scenery stay pretty much the same. It was OK as a little time waster from PS Plus but to be honest I probably would have been disappointed had I purchased this as there's not an awful lot to it. I'm probably of the disposition to appreciate this more than some as I'm a fan of exploration, ambient music and such.

You can earn trophies but the descriptions on how to get them are obscure and some of them seem like a chore and not always reliable e.g. look at all the fauna in the game, but the game can be fussy as to what constitutes "looking", so miss a trigger and you have to start the whole procedure again, not particularly fun in my book so the trophy count will be minimal in this playthrough. I did look at the trophy list before playing so I guessed how to get the "Beachcombing" trophy (that's why I circle the whole island at the start of the game). Some sort of checklist to see how much progress you've made with the trophies would have made this so much more engaging but I guess the developers (just two people apparently) wanted to create an air of mystery behind them, oh well.

This is a blind playthrough, though technically all playthroughs of this would be blind to a certain extent because of the random elements. It's the one and only time I went through this title in full.
